JOHNNY A. PRESENTS ONE NOVEMBER
NIGHT, NEW DOUBLE DISC DVD/CD FOR
RELEASE ON MARCH 9, RECORDED
LIVE AT SCULLERS IN BOSTON
BOSTON, MA –
Virtuoso guitarist Johnny A.
announces a March 9 release date on Aglaophone
Records for One November Night, a two-disc
DVD/CD set recorded live at Scullers in Boston.
Filmed using five high definition cameras and
recorded direct for amazing sound clarity, the
new DVD/CD captures one of America’s premier
contemporary guitarists in an intimate setting for
a truly special experience.
Both discs include many of his fans’ favorites
taken from Johnny A.’s two previous studio
albums, Sometime Tuesday Morning (2001) and Get Inside (2004), including such songs
as ‘I Had to Laugh,” “Tex Critter,” “Two Wheel Horse,” Lullabye for Nicole,”
“Ignorance Is Bliss” and “Get Inside.” Also featured is the previously unrecorded “Jimi
Jam,” a sonic salute to Hendrix and such other iconic guitarists as Jimmy Page and Eric
Clapton.
The DVD also includes bonus interview segments, and concludes with his transcendent
solo rendition of The Left Banke classic, “Walk Away Renee,” filmed outdoors against a
vibrant New England mountain sunset.
Bonus tracks on the CD include his take on Hendrix’s “The Wind Cries Mary” and
Jimmy Webb’s “Wichita Lineman,” as well as two previously unrecorded songs:
The Beatles’ “The Night Before” and Chuck Berry’s “Memphis.”
“Fans had been asking for a live album for some time now,” says Johnny in the package
liner notes, “and I finally decided it was probably the right time to release it. This is an
honest, no frills presentation of one night in the life of what I do.”
Playing his Johnny A. Signature Model guitar developed by Gibson in 2003 (which has
become one of the company’s most successful and popular models), he paints gorgeous aural portraits of each song, using tone, melody and dynamics ranging from shimmering
single note patterns to ferocious rave-ups, which literally surround the audience in sound.
Since the release of his earlier CDs, Johnny A. has carved out a unique spot in music. His
song, “Oh Yeah,” became the first number one instrumental in more than a decade on the
Triple A radio charts. Along with his commercial radio airplay, feature segments on
National Public Radio and other syndicated radio shows, plus extensive touring and the
release of his instructional DVD, Taste, Tone, Space (2006), combined sales of Johnny
A. discs are now approaching 150,000 copies.
His previous work as a sideman with Peter Wolf (where he spent seven years and co-produced
Wolf’s 1996 solo album, Long Line), Bobby Whitlock and others helped set
the stage for his solo career and developed his reputation as a guitar player extraordinaire.
In the last several years, he’s also been asked to appear at such prestigious festivals as
Eric Clapton’s Crossroads, the Montreal Jazz Festival and Tokyo’s Fuji Rock Festival.
In addition to his extensive radio airplay, Johnny A’s been recognized by the music press
around the world as a very special talent. “Devotion to melodies, tight dynamics and
succulent tones perfectly temper Johnny’s balance of fire and ice,” said Guitar World.
“Johnny A. has eclectic musical vision and the skills to realize it…A.’s music is both
accessible and sophisticated,” said Jazziz magazine in its review.

The Johnny A. Signature Model Guitar

The History & Design of Gibson's Modern Classic

Yes, that's the "working" title of a my newest book project.

I'm writer and photographer Chris A. (no relation to JA) but I am working with Johnny A. to produce a very high quality book on the history and development of the Gibson Custom Shop Johnny A. Signature Model guitar and I would like YOUR help on this project. If you own a JA guitar I'd really like to hear from you. Please drop me a line at

chris@chrisa.us

I'm seeking high-quality photographs, information and stories about you and your guitar! Every JA is a beautiful guitar so I'd like to hear from you about your passion for this modern classic.

In addition to obtaining information and photos of JA guitars I'm also very interested in what YOU would like to see within the pages of this book? Do you have questions for Johnny A. about "why" something is the way it is on the guitar? Let me know. I may use your question.

My objective is to write the most definitive volume about this guitar that is possible. I want to fill it with historically accurate, detailed information supported by great images of these beautiful instruments. I know many of you are very serious players, collectors, dealers and enthusiasts. Consequently your input will be valued.

If you have owned or currently own a JA please drop me a line! If you're a retail music store and you sell the JA, I'd love to hear from you. If you have interesting JA or JA guitar related material, promo stuff, posters, performance photos, ticket stubs etc., yes, I'm interested in hearing from you. Thanks for reading this and I hope you'll considering being a part of the legacy of the one of the finest electric guitars that has ever been produced.

This was taken at the announcement of the JA signature guitar. I am holding JA008

This next photo is an important one to me. On both ends are the old and new admins for the JAR and in the middle are the creators of the signature guitar. It was taken at a Gibson Custom Shop Fantasy Camp where Chris and I got to work side-by-side with the wonderful people in the shop. We learned a lot about the Johnny A. guitar as well as other Gibson models.
