072 was shipped from the Custom Shop on December 22nd, 2003.
It is a stop tailpiece, sunset glow finished, right handed guitar and is
currently for sale. The guitar was sold by Dave's Guitar Shop in La
Crosse, Wisconsin. Here's what Trent, the original owner had has to say about
the guitar: I
have been playing guitar for 24 years. I have owned vintage
instruments and custom shop guitars. This guitar is by far the best
sounding, most versatile, guitar I have ever owned. Excellent craftsmanship.
My new number one!
Trent sold the guitar and it was apparently purchased by another
guitar store who sold it to it's current owner Alan F. Interestingly
Alan relates that his 072 has a Bigsby!!! Sadly
he's got some workmanship problems with the guitar and apparently it
has been returned to Gibson for some TLC. There could be
confusion with the headstock number, we hope to try to figure it out
here on the MCR!!! Based on what the original owner
wrote I'm betting we're talking about two different guitars.
Could there be two 072s out there??? Does anyone have this stop
tail piece example in the photos below?
It is thought
that the custom shop destroyed this guitar due to problem. It
is possible that it was repaired and renumbered. I'll attempt to
find out.
