The JA prototype guitar was the first one produced for Johnny A. The
serial number is CS20822 and is marked "PROTOTYPE" on the rear
of the headstock. The guitar has a gingerburst" quilted
finish. There are a few differences in this guitar in comparison to
production models. The headstock inlay is slightly different
compared to production models. In
addition the guitar is equipped with a very attractive trapeze style
tailpiece. I asked Johnny A. about this tailpiece and he related
that while he liked the way it looked it wasn't as robust as he would have
liked. A few additional details about this guitar. The back of
the headstock has the "stinger" paintjob as do the production
versions in addition to a Gibson Custom Shop decal. I asked
the folks at the Custom Shop why the production guitars don't have the
Custom Shop decal and they related that the decision was up to the
artist. The pick guard of the prototype is also slightly
different to the production versions. The photo of Johnny A. with
